Healthy, ironing and books
It has been a more hectic week than expected in the Withenay abode, hence the late posting of this blog post. My end of week got rather scuppered when my father was rushed into hospital for a blood transfusion… though it turned out to be a straightforward procedure in preparation for his planned operation next week. Now he has some iron back in his blood he’s feeling a lot better! Thank you, NHS.
In the meantime, I thought I would update you with more mundane household matters… namely, the ironing.
Do any of you produce ironing piles that look like this?

Working from right to left we have my daughter’s clothes… two (yes, two!) piles. Then mine, then my husbands, then four pillowcases. And last – and by every means least – my son’s clothes: a solitary T-shirt.
I’ll concede a couple of school shirts that aren’t in the picture, but this is such a typical array of our clothing. How my daughter gets through so much I’ll never know. How my son gets through so little, well… I dread to think. At least it doesn’t make girlfriends a great threat at present!
On the writing front, this week I have tried to pull together a ‘Draft 2’ of Book 2, which is possibly an even worse draft than Draft 1. Nevertheless, the only chapter my husband has read has been completely omitted, given he said it was absolute rubbish and going nowhere. You can blame him if the crux of the story is missing. (It isn’t: he was right. I just needed someone to say it to me!)
And a fleeting book review. I’ve just finished readingĀ Life after life by Kate Atkinson, winner of the Costa Novel Award 2013. It is possibly the only book I’ve read when I literally finished the last page and thought: I have to read that again. Normally I either love it, and am ready to move on to something new and different, or hate it, and am ready to dispose of it as quickly as possible. However, that desire – no, need – to read it again shows what an excellent book it was: well written and gripping and intriguing in equal measures.
So there it is: a hotchpotch of events this week. Pretty normal round here!
